Anton Benzon

Anton is the son of the artists Johan Oldert and Elize Laidler. Elize is a waterpaint artist who believes that painting is good for the soul.

Anton was born in Johannesburg on 18 March 1944. He grew up in an art orientated home in Johannesburg and Cape Town. He later moved to Zimbabwe where he met his wife Maureen. In 1972 they moved to Durban, where he painted from a studio in his house, in Cowies Hill.

Although he never spent much time with his father when he was young, his father’s work had a great influence on him.

His work reflects a strong bond to the work of his best friend, the temperamental Italian artist, Titta Fasciotti.

Anton focuses mostly on landscapes, the use of strong colours and is familiar for the extraordinary light that's obvious in his paintings. He has paintings in several galleries and is rapidly becoming one of the countries top artists. His work is purchased by art lovers all over South Africa as well as USA, Canada and Ireland.
