Bea was born on 26 December 1941 in the Paarl. Her love for art and her talent was discovered and inspired at an early age, by her art teacher, the famous Dawid Botha. She graduated in Historic Art and taught at W.A. Joubert school in the Paarl.
In 1966 she resided in Leeds, England for two years, where she fully experienced the European art history. It is also here where she fell in love with the warm bright colours of European art.
With the help of the head of department of fine art at the University of Durban – Westville, Professor Pierre Volschenk, she started painting with oil and water paints. During this phase she painted her own style in ethnic figures and strong colours. Her work is very similar to that of Maggie Laubscher.
Later on, her travelling to Europe influenced her work tremendously. French impressionism directed her work in a much more impressionistic direction.
Lately her embroadened field included an expressionistic style. She spends two months in a year in Europe studying different techniques of artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrse, Cezanne, Cialleotte and Gaugiun.
Recognition was given to this artist when she was elected to do a range of works for a private collector in a suburb in Paris, France. This exposure led to regular commissions through South African Embassies and Children homes in Paris. Her work has also been sold in countries like, England, Switzerland, Belgium and France.
On local grounds her work can be viewed in leading galleries.
